pyloric armature

Definition: 

A collection of posteriorly directed spicules borne on the walls of the pylorus (pl. pylori) at the end of the midgut.

Explanation: 

Examples of the pyloric armature are illustrated in Tuten et al. (2012), who conducted a comparative study of the armature in eight species representing six genera, Anopheles punctipennis, Culex pipiens, Culex restuans, Hulecoeteomyia japonica, ‘Ochlerotatus (Protomacleaya)’ triseriatus, Orthopodomyia signifera and Toxorhynchites rutilus.
